Workers' Compensation:

Back Injury

How do back injuries happen?

Back injuries happen in all types of work, and can happen in many ways.  You could hurt your back lifting a heavy object, pulling or pushing something, slipping and falling, or even just moving in the wrong way.  Back injuries can happen suddenly.  They can also develop slowly over time from doing the same repetitive action at work over and over again.  Back injuries can be as simple as a pulled or torn muscle or as complex as nerve damage and cracked back bones (fractured vertebrae).  Find out more about herniated disc injuries by visiting our page on herniated discs.

What does a back injury feel like?

A back injury can feel like a sudden, sharp pain.  It can also feel like something is pulling or tugging in your back.  It could also feel like numbness or pressure that doesn't go away.  The pain of a back injury can also make it hard to enjoy life.  Your work injury can stop you from having fun with your friends and family.  Give us a call at the Law Office of Franklin J. Furlett at 847-352-6226 for a free consultation about your workers’ compensation claim to get money for your medical care to treat your back injury.

A back injury can feel like sudden, sharp pain, a tugging sensation, or like numbness and tingling in your arms, legs, hands, or feet.

What happens if I hurt my back and I can’t work anymore?

Often, workers with back injuries have to take time off work to heal.  If you don't get workers compensation to help you with your expenses, the rent and other bills can pile up fast.

Sometimes, workers are just given different jobs that pay less when they get injured.  If you can't do your regular job, and get paid less because of your injury, we can help you get the money you need to pay your bills.  You should speak to an Illinois Workers Compensation lawyer as soon as possible to make sure you don't end up with money problems when you are on medical leave or you are given a different job because of an injury.

What kind of medical treatment will I need for my back?

The process of healing from a back injury is different for each person.  Many back injuries require physical therapy.  Some back injuries require steroid injections or even surgery.  The medical costs can become very large.  Our workers' compensation attorneys are here to guide you through the process of getting workers' compensation benefits from your employer to get you the money you need.

If you got a back injury on the job, your medical costs and other expenses may be covered by the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Act.  Under the Workers’ Compensation Act, you can get your medical bills paid for and get money for time off work.  You can also get money for permanent damage from your injury that can't be healed through medical treatment.

Should I wait to see if the pain goes away?

If you think you hurt your back at work, don't wait to see if the pain goes away.  Tell your employer you got hurt, and contact a workers' compensation attorney.  If you do not tell your employer about your injury when it happens, it can be difficult or even impossible to get money for your injuries.

In workers’ compensation, the deadlines can be very fast.  It is best not to wait more than a month to contact a workers' compensation attorney.
